2004 Summer Youth Employment Program

The subsidized summer program runs for five weeks and provides employment opportunities and job-readiness training to youth ages 14 to 21. This year's program is from July 12 to August 13. Participants will receive $5.15 per hour and work 20 to 30 hours per week, based on their age. Students hired to work in federal or private sector jobs may work beyond five weeks and earn $6.15 to $12 per hour.

Corporate Sponsors Needed to Employ Youth This Summer

Be a Youth Champion by hiring or sponsoring a young worker this summer. In past years, the local business community has been a strong partner in the DC Department of Employment Services’ Summer Youth Employment Program by hiring or sponsoring a youth during the summer. This summer, thousands of youth will be seeking employment. Mentoring a youth through a summer job can be a very powerful investment in the District’s workforce and an asset to your business.

Hire a young person to work in your business or make a donation of $1,000 to sponsor one youth’s work experience for five weeks this summer. A donation will place a young worker in a non-profit or public organization for the summer. The work experience and this small salary can make a world of difference to a young worker.

For additional information on hiring or sponsoring a youth, call the Summer Jobs Hotline at (202) 698-5242.

Team DC, Special Emergency Preparedness Program for Youth

The "Team DC Project" is a component of the summer program that was developed in partnership with the DC Emergency Management Agency. Team DC is a limited-enrollment program that provides participants with instruction and hands-on skill development in the areas of emergency preparedness and disaster relief activities.
